Employees of KM2 Solutions St. Lucia have come to the aid of Caribbean neighbors in St. Vincent following volcanic devastation there.
On April 9th, 2021, the Caribbean nation of St. Vincent & the Grenadines suffered an eruption of the La Soufrière volcano. Three days later, a second larger eruption released large amounts of hot ash, lava, and toxic gas, leaving approximately two-thirds of the island covered in a thick layer of ash and thousands of residents forced from their homes. The eruptions led to shortages of essential goods and services, including clean drinking water, sanitation, food, electricity, transportation, shelter, and medical care, as well as damage to homes, farms, and other sources of livelihood in the affected communities.
In a show of solidarity with the Government and people of St. Vincent, KM2 Solutions St. Lucia employees were quick to react, raising funds through donations to help fund a relief effort. On July 22nd, Site Director Marvin Bartholomew, along with colleagues from KM2 Solutions St. Lucia, presented the St. Lucia Red Cross with a cheque for $8000 that they will remit to their sister agency in St. Vincent to help fund relief and recovery efforts. Mr. Bartholomew notes that while eruptions have ceased and most people elsewhere have moved on, there is still a dire need facing many affected residents, particularly the people of the northern-most areas closest to the volcano.
