Safeguarding St. Lucia Employees
March 30, 2020

KM² Solutions, the premier outsourcing company in St. Lucia would like to share with you the safeguard measures that we have put in place amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

In ordinary times, the safety of our employees is a foremost concern. Amid the global COVID-19 crisis, it has become a central theme, discussed daily at every level of the organization. In the case of St. Lucia, the local management team has worked closely with the Government and relevant agencies to ensure that the operating protocols we have put in place meet their requirements.

Safety First

As a company, one clear theme through all our meetings and planning is that we recognize this as a public health issue and the safety of our employees, and their loved ones is the prevailing concern. Accordingly, we are doing all reasonably in our power to reduce risk to everyone. Among other steps that we have taken are these. We have:

  • Launched an aggressive delivery of on-site awareness campaigns to provide education on appropriate health and hygiene practice and have leveraged our internal Learning Management System to require every employee to take mandatory training around COVID-19.
  • Increased our custodial staff and cleaning regiment.
  • Installed external hand-washing sinks.
  • Changed the orientation of internal doors so that employees do not have to touch them to go in and out.
  • Required that any employee who recently traveled to an affected country be away from the office for 14 days.
  • Required that any employee who has cold / flu-like symptoms stay away from the office for 14 days or see a medical doctor for clearance before returning.
  • Expanded our usual employee transportation to now cover mornings.
  • Aggressively lessened the occupancy within the offices by distancing every employee to be at least 6 ft. from the next, that is, sitting in every other workstation.
  • Placed all support staff who can work from home to do so and are aggressively adding agents to work from home where possible.

“KM² Solutions employs over 1000 people across the island of St. Lucia and remains acutely aware of the potentially devastating economic impact it could have on our employees and their families, should we have to halt operations. Notwithstanding this, we would never put our employees in a position of unnecessary, elevated risk and will continue to work closely with government agencies to maintain protocols that keep employees safe”

– Marvin Bartholomew, Site Director

Work-From-Home Solutions

As the nation entered a partial shut-down we again worked with government agencies and the Office of the Prime Minister to either strengthen these protocols or add new ones. Notwithstanding these measures, we recognize that the best solution for all concerned is work-from-home. Accordingly, we continue to aggressively work with our clients and IT staff to place as many people to work-from-home as can be secure and productive.

We aim to have over 400 employees in St. Lucia working from home within the next few days – that is nearly half of the workforce.

For those whose work is still at the office buildings, we have made it clear that employees should only come in if they are free of any symptoms, have not had any contact with anyone who has recently travelled and feel personally comfortably enough to show up. We fully respect that everyone has a right to self-isolate and have relaxed company policies around attendance.

How Our Work Is Helping

As a global company, we continue to provide service to many clients whose businesses are on the front lines of COVID-19 impact. In St. Lucia for example, our employees have helped tens of thousands of travellers (and property owners) in the US and UK who found themselves stuck or were trying to cancel or reschedule travel. In Honduras and Grenada, we are helping many of our clients in the medical and dental services industry field calls from anxious callers. In all our sites, for our financial clients, agents are handling calls from customers who find themselves in need of help with loan servicing, offering customers deferments, reduced payments, waived fees and other options. And we are now working with the Government of St. Lucia to expand staff coverage of the COVID-19 hotline to 24 hours.

“Every day new information is presented that helps guide our business to meet today’s challenges. As we work with local and national governments across multiple countries, we continue to adjust our operations for our valued employees.”

– David Kreiss, President & CEO

This is a difficult time we’re all facing globally. As a company, we’re committed to doing our part. We are aware that thousands across St. Lucia have been displaced from their jobs and if we can safely avoid adding to that number, we’ll continue to try until it becomes unreasonable to do so. We thank all our hard-working employees for their commitment and dedicated work.
